Fall AgWireless News

Many of you have inquired about our new wireless offering and I am VERY anxious to get it launched!

We have been testing and running pilots on 5 new products, a new wireless network, and designing a beautiful application over the last 2 years and all are exceeding expectations.

When the decision was made to develop a wireless solution, the single most important factor was to do copious amounts of testing so the device functions the way we intend. Recognizing the exhaustive work our customers put in on a daily basis, we are committed to making your lives easier with reliable remote telemetry.

You will see updates on each item as we approach launch as well as new details and descriptions of our products updated on our website regularly. Make sure you check back often!

Fall AgWire News

Of all the planning seasons (30 of them, time flies when you’re having fun) this one may go down in history as one of the most difficult… fingers crossed we don’t say that again this spring!

Our raw materials are tariffed and/or more expensive to get, the cost to move those materials has doubled, production is booked out, retaliatory tariffs have affected growers and hurricane Michael and Florence that have left millions of people and a power grid to re-build as well as many of our own customers.

The rumblings of possible tariffs and greater demand on domestic production led us to the decision to hedge metals (a lot of metal) and plan production out much earlier this year. Hindsight being 20/20, I am grateful we did. Many factors in the market are impossible to plan for (hurricanes) but thankfully, our inventory began arriving months ago and will continue to do so through the end of the year. While not all cost increases are in our control, we have successfully managed the ones that are.

Our first priority is and always will be Agriculture, so I do urge orders to be placed as soon as you can, even if it is to hold material, as demand has been increasing across market sectors for aluminum products.

House Farm Bill Promotes Efficient Irrigation

In early March, members of the Irrigation Association, including myself, arrived in DC for our annual Fly-In. The timing of the Fly In was perfect as we were able to discuss issues directly affecting growers and the positive changes our Farm Bill priorities could have on irrigation efficiency and grower productivity. After several days and meeting with over 30 congressional offices, we all were very pleased with the feedback, conversations and general interest Representatives had for our industry. I left thinking “WOW, WE WERE ACTUALLY HEARD”.

Fast forward several weeks and boom… great news came from the House Ag Committee! We WERE heard! Many of the proposed changes in the Farm Bill draft directly reflected our meetings, our Farm Bill priority asks were included! This is a major win for the irrigation industry!

It is nearly impossible for growers to support population growth (food, fiber and fuel demand) without policy supporting the technologies that enable more crop per drop.

Our work is far from done but I feel very proud of the Irrigation Association’s steadfast work in advocating for efficient irrigation technologies and its benefits to grower productivity.

Download our Farm Bill Priorities here and please share with your Members of Congress. Now is the time!

LoRaWan Wireless Network

(aka: Long Range Wide Area Network brings connectivity to even the most remote locations)

LoRaWan is an exceptional network solution for connecting low-cost remote telemetry sensors. Thousands if not hundreds of thousands of sensors can be connected to a single base station. Because the network supports relatively small data packets, we are able to achieve an ~ 10-year battery life. Perfect, cost-effective solution to allow growers to collect empirical data from all aspects of their operation. Think soil moisture sensors, flowmeter telemetry, weather stations, GPS tracking, grain bin monitors, tank monitors, pump monitors and much more!

Volatility in Aluminum Market

We deeply value our partnerships and feel it is our responsibility to keep you updated on market conditions and the steps that we are taking to ensure we mitigate as much risk and uncertainty as possible for our customers.

Over the last few months, we have seen aluminum increase to an 8 year high and the Midwest Premium on aluminum increase from $0.10lb to $0.21lb. Many factors are at play here, sanctions on Rusal and freight charge increases, to name a few.

While we have taken every action to protect our prices, there are a few factors that we cannot control. Aluminum has fluctuated greater than 15% in an hour any given day and freight charges have nearly doubled.

We will do our absolute best to keep our pricing steady but will need to make adjustments.

We will continue to keep you informed of market changes and fluctuations that may affect your business.

Finally, a huge ‘thank you’ for your support and dedication as we work through this volatile cycle.

Protecting Growers from Copper Theft

Copper theft is an epidemic that we just can’t seem to shake.

There are 30,000 cases of copper theft a year in the U.S., with a staggering $40 million in replacement costs. Growers have been hard hit, and in response we created the only traceable cable in the world – Proof Positive® cables

There’s no way around it – copper thefts are a drain on agriculture.

Proof Positive span and motor drop cables contain TraceID codes unique to every three inches of cable – providing growers, Ag dealers, recyclers, and law enforcement with the proof of ownership needed to prosecute thieves. And Proof Positive® Signage Kit warns thieves that the bright yellow, easily identified cable comes with tracking technology.

When a pivot cable is cut and stolen, it can wreak havoc on growers. Not only is there the replacement cost, which can easily be thousands of dollars, but crop loss is even more costly..

With Paige Agwire Theft Alert, growers and authorities are notified when a cable is cut, and thieves can be caught in the act.

That yellow stuff works!
